Bargaining and Organising for Neurodiversity 2025/26
Red in the Spectrum continues our excellent work with the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU), running courses on Bargaining and Organising for Neurodiversity at its lovely education centre at Quorn Grange Hotel in Leicestershire.
This academic year, we have run two courses on Bargaining and Organising for Neurodiversity.
Bargaining and organising for neurodiversity
The title of the course is important. The course is for trade union representatives, and it addresses what they do: bargaining with employers and organising workers.
The most effective training for union reps on neurodiversity covers more than ‘awareness’, more than briefings on various neurodivergent ‘conditions’. It is not neurodiversity training that is delivered to trade union reps but could equally be delivered to anyone else.
This training uses case studies, scenarios, videos and group work to equip trainees with the knowledge, skills and belligerent attitude they need to win more neuro-inclusive workplaces.
So yes, it includes learning about minority neurotypes. But it also includes identifying demands for workplace change, bargaining for and winning those demands, and involving neurodivergent workers in the union.
