Videos: Fire Brigades Union organises disabled and neurodivergent members

Red in the Spectrum has been working with the Fire Brigades Union for a few years now, running courses and helping the union to set up its Disabled and Neurodivergent Members’ forum.

Fire Brigades Union: launching a new network

In 2024, the Fire Brigades Union held a one-day event in Leeds to launch its Disabled and Neurodivergent Members’ network, and also to launch its guidance document on neurodiversity.

Members talked about the issues they faced at work, and heard speakers from other trade unions about the work they had done.

Fire Brigades Union: a year on

In 2025, also in Leeds, the FBU’s Disabled and Neurodivergent Members’ Network met again, this time over two days.

There was a detailed discussion about the social model of disability and how to apply it at work. Attendees talked about various workplace scenarios.

And everyone wore the union’s new jumper, emblazoned with the slogan, No Barriers – No Exceptions.
